Acts 16:5 Initiative “The churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers” (Acts 16:5)
The session approved, at its March stated meeting, Park Lake’s participation in a program of church transformation and growth called “The Acts 16:5 Initiative”. This program is offered by The Vital Church Institute and developed by Dr. E. Stanley Ott, former pastor of the Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, PA. More than 15 churches in Central Florida Presbytery will go through the program which includes a three year cycle of discerning God’s vision for your church and exploring new ways to live out that vision. |

by PCUSA Nat. Health and your Health & Care Committee:
In General: If we have been listening, we already know that children’s health issues are causing consternation, with increasing obesity rates and the early signs of diseases like hypertension and diabetes, exacerbated by weight gain, at record levels for young people. Sedentary lifestyles eating habits and nutrition are likely key to much of this change. We also know that autism is being diagnosed at increasing rates — one child in every 150 — potentially reflecting better diagnostic tools compounding a real increase in numbers of cases, a rise that some suggest maybe be attributable to mercury that has been used as a preservative in vaccines. |

Hello Park Lakers and PLPC Choir!...
It has come to my attention that the thank you card I made, and left for you, during the Mission Fair week, mysteriously disappeared! So, I am writing to you now in hopes that it is not too late to express my sincere thanks for the beautiful reception you gave to me and my family on February 3. |

From Erin: Cindy and I will be heading to the Namumu Orphanage (located in Siavonga, Zambia) May 31 – June 10 as representatives of Park Lake for a Roundtable Meeting with several other churches from the States. The Orphanage is facing some major changes in the near future and the purpose of this meeting is to discuss how we (and the other churches) can help support the Orphanage with these changes and to better build it’s future. |

Don and Wei Hong Snow are PC(USA) missionaries in China. Park Lake now supports their witness of Christ in this increasingly open mission field. Here is how the Mission Connections web pages of www.pcusa.org describe their current service:
“Since July of 2003 Don and Wei Hong have been serving in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu province, in eastern China. Don teaches graduate students in the English Department of Nanjing University, one of China's top universities and an institution which the Presbyterian Church had a hand in founding over a century ago. Wei Hong serves as a volunteer at the library of Jinling Theological Seminary, assisting them in computer cataloging their holdings. Don and Wei Hong also serve the PC(USA) as regional liaison staff for China.” |

Discovering God, by Peter Stark (220.22). This book looks at the origins of the major religions, with the question, “Do people invent God, or do they discover God?” Stark says God created us and we discover God, in a wide variety of searches. I recommend to you his chapter on Islam, which has a number of historical points. |
