Children and youth are an essential part of the life of the church. They are welcomed and encouraged to participate in worship. Some of our youth usher, others sing in the choir and others bear the Cross of Christ into church at the beginning of worship.
Children in third grade and older become acolytes. At the beginning of worship, acolytes accompany the youth cross bearer by carrying the light of Christ into worship. At the end of worship, the acolytes carry the light of Christ with us out into the world.
Worship bags and children’s bulletins are also provided for enhancing younger worshiper’s participation.
Following the Gathering of the Children during worship, younger children (ages 3-third grade) are escorted to the lower level of the Sanctuary Building. There they continue their age appropriate worship with Bible stories, crafts and prayer. The children return to worship after the sermon.
Nursery care is available during Sunday School and worship for infants and toddlers. The nursery is located on the second floor of the Education Building and is available from 9:00 – 11:45 a.m.
Please read our Worshipping with Children for additional information regarding children’s worship at Park Lake.
The following two Sundays are dedicated to children and youth participation:
Each Spring, the Middle and Senior High School Youth lead the congregation in worship providing the Scripture readings, the prayers, and the sermon.
On the last Sunday of Advent, the children and youth lead the congregation in worship by presenting a Christmas Pageant reinacting the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
